The cottage is situated close to the centre of Phalaborwa in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, on the border of the Kruger National Park. Excellent accommodation, personalised service and homemade breakfasts are our specialities. Location Phalaborwa, the town of two summers, is a comfortable one-hour scheduled flight from Johannesburg International Airport. When you do fly to Phalaborwa, Raintree Cottage will meet you at the local airport. Rental vehicles are available at all airports, but for those who really want to rest, transport can be arranged in air-conditioned vehicles. Phalaborwa is about 480 km from Pretoria, and can easily be reached within five hours by car. You will pass through the scenic Eastern Mpumalanga, which makes an excellent stop to enjoy a break along the road and watch the splendid nature. Inter city bus services are available and transport to and from the bus terminal can be arranged. The Raintree Cottage offers discerning visitors a chance to enjoy the tranquillity and adventures of the bush. The verandah surrounding the cottage invites you to linger, relax and enjoy the lush subtropical gardens and bird song. Accommodation Raintree Cottage offers eight bedrooms, individually and tastefully decorated in Victorian interiors, with private entrances from the verandah. This includes a family room, three double-bed rooms,two twin-bed rooms and two single-bed room. The dining area as well as the rest of the cottage has been furnished with beautiful old antique furniture. All the rooms are equipped with colour television, ceiling fans and coffee trays. Each room, individually decorated, is air-conditioned and has an en-suite bathroom. The family room caters for four people with a spacious en-suite bathroom. Wake up in the morning with birds singing in fresh morning air as the sun rises and shines into your bedroom. The lush tropical gardens surrounding the cottage invites you to relax. Enjoy the sweet smell of flowers and bird life in the area. Attractions The Phalaborwa Gate to the Kruger National Park is situated only 1.5 km from The Raintree Cottage. This makes it the perfect base from where to explore both the Northern and Southern parts of this vast wildlife sanctuary. Experience the Big Five as never before - up close! Picnic spots both in the Kruger National Park and on the outskirts of Phalaborwa attract large numbers of tourists. Visit the historic towns of Pilgrims Rest and Leydsdorp, where you can delve deep into the gold enriched histories of these towns. The breathtaking views of Gods Window, Bourkes Luck Potholes and a host of waterfalls awaits you. The Ecco Caves is worth visiting. Allow time to explore the nooks and crannies, arts and craft venues, magnificent cycad forest, dams, tea gardens and the bar in the baobab tree. Visit the Amarula Lapa and learn more about this unique seasonal fruit and enjoy this quality drink’s heavenly taste in a number of different ways, with coffee and even with desert! We can supply you with an enormous range of attractions within a range of 50 km from the cottage. These include mine tours, magnificent view over the Lowveld and private game farms. Sporting facilities are a short distance from Raintree Cottage. Close by is the very popular Hans Merensky Golf Estate for golf, squash, swimming and tennis. Spoil yourself and visit the Cheetah Breeding projects, the Reptile Park and Endangered Bird Rehabilitation Centre. All of these can be visited in a day drive from the cottage. Meals You, our guest, can enjoy a full English breakfast with fresh fruit. The meals are served in the dining room or on the verandah, where guests can enjoy good coffee. At Raintree Cottage, you can relax with sundowners at our fully licensed bar. With prior arrangement a heart-warming home-cooked meal will be prepared and served.
